Dr. Kevin Warrian, BA (Hons), BSc (Med), MD, MA, FRCS(C)
Ophthalmologist
Dr. Kevin Warrian was born in Kelowna, British Columbia. He attended medical school at the University of Manitoba and completed his ophthalmology residency at the Ivey Eye Institute, Canada’s second oldest training program. He has completed a glaucoma clinical and research fellowship with Dr. George L. Spaeth at Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia, and he is a member of the International Spaeth Society of Fellows (ISSF).
Dr. Warrian moved to Calgary in 2012 to complete a two year fellowship in medical and surgical retina at the University of Calgary. Following his Fellowship at the University of Calgary, he underwent additional training at the University of Miami’s Bascom Palmer Eye Institute in Florida over the summer of 2014. This focused on advanced anterior segment surgery, electrophysiology, hereditary retinal disease and ocular oncology.
Over the course of his career, he has been extensively involved in resident and medical student teaching. He has received faculty-wide teaching awards from the medical school at the University of Western Ontario and has been an invited speaker for the Canadian Diabetes Association and the Canadian National Institute for the Blind (CNIB). He has lectured for the University of Calgary and served as an oral examiner for their residency training program. Dr. Warrian has trained ophthalmology residents and vitreoretinal surgical fellows in surgical techniques and has served as an instructor for the University of Calgary’s Department of Surgery Microsurgical Skills Course.
He has published original research in many peer reviewed journals and presented original research at many national and international conferences. He continues to serve as an invited reviewer for many of ophthalmology’s most widely regarded academic journals, including: Journal of the American Medical Association – Ophthalmology, Investigative Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences, Retina, Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, the British Journal of Ophthalmology and the American Journal of Ophthalmology. He has been recognized by the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) as a Top Reviewer from among several thousand reviewers for the most widely read journal published by the Academy, the journal Ophthalmology.
Dr. Warrian has been in full-time practice in Calgary since the spring of 2014, providing a wide array of vision correction and eye care treatments. His contributions to the community are numerous and include over a thousand electrophysiology interpretations for Alberta Health Services, as well as providing care for many patients in the community who have a wide range of eye disease.
