A recent episode of CBC Radio’s The Homestretch features an interview with our very own Dr. Howard Gimbel, who was invited onto the show to discuss a highly prestigious honour. Over his 40-plus years of service in the field of ophthalmology, Dr. Gimbel has earned many awards and distinctions for his pioneering work, including the Alberta Order of Excellence. In December, it was announced that Dr. Gimbel would be joining the select group of individuals named to the Order of Canada, and he talked to CBC Radio Host Doug Dirks about the honour and what it means to him.
The Homestretch episode featuring Dr. Gimbel details the many accomplishments of Dr. Gimbel’s career and gets his input on how, at 84 years-young, he is able to continue innovating and performing advanced eye surgery without even thinking about slowing down. Dirks and Dr. Gimbel also discuss how much the field of ophthalmology and cataract surgery has changed over the decades and what we can expect for the future.
